ะยฒสอ๘ Rankin Campus Associate Degree Nursing student Enrique Sosa is the recipient of the Kelley Humphreys nursing Scholarship for 2023-2024.

Sosa, 21, of Brandon was born in Cuba, but came to the United States as a young child with his family. Now heโ€™s a first-generation college student pursuing his dream.

โ€œMy parents left everything to give me a better future here in the States. I want to make it count,โ€ he said. โ€œI always wanted to help people, so I thought, โ€˜why not nursing?โ€™ Thereโ€™s always a great need for nurses.

โ€œNursing has always been my first thought of a career since high school,โ€ he said. โ€œNursing is very versatile. You can do different things.โ€

The Humphreys scholarship is named in honor of a ะยฒสอ๘ nursing graduate, Kelley Elizabeth Humphreys, who was working in the oncology unit at St. Dominic Hospital when she was killed in a Jackson car crash in 2006.
